After the waste import law entered in act, the Alliance Against Waste
Import started planning the request for a popular referendum about
clause 49 of this law, which allows import of foreign waste.
One of the initiators of this movement, the analyst Blendi Kajsiu, declared for Top News that one of the first 12 signatures favoring this referendum is that of the former Albanian President, Alfred Mojsiu.
According to Kajsiu, this request will be submitted at the Central Election Commission within November.
Kajsiu explained that the referendum request is a constitutional right, and the cause for preventing the country from turning into a rubbish bin is a national issue.
He declared that these reasons will be the strong base of this request, which will be very difficult to be rejected.
According to the representatives of the Alliance Against Waste Import, if the referendum request will be approved, they will secure 50.000 signatures until March 2012, for enabling the referendum.
