Referendum against waste import

The CEC admission of the referendum request filed by the “Alliance
Against Waste Import” was considered by this alliance as the first
victory. Now they need to collect 50.000 signatures, and fulfill the
Democratic Party condition to provide an identity document photocopy for
each signature.

The human right activist, Kozara Kati, explained how the signatures will be collected.

“We have decided to start this process tomorrow, after the CEC admission of our referendum request. We will start collecting the citizens’ signatures through our structures in different cities, and for continuing with the referendum”, Mrs. Kati declared.

Although the condition for securing the photocopies and signatures has been considered as an effort for hampering the process, the Alliance representatives are determined to collect the necessary signatures by the end of January, by guaranteeing that the citizens’ data will be safe.

“It is true that the CEC request aims to complicate the process, because it is an unprecedented demand, however, this will not stop us from securing all needed signatures. The only obstacle is the fact that this request denies the rural population to participate, since they lack of photocopy machines. But we will collect the signatures and will guarantee the safety of the personal data for all citizens”, declared Blendi Kajsiu, activist of the Alliance against Waste Import.

Created only a few weeks ago, the Alliance Against Waste Import strongly opposed the two articles of the law that was approved in Parliament for allowing the import of foreign waste for processing them in our territory.
