The United States encourage Kosovo to keep implementing the agreement
they reached with Serbia on April 19th in Brussels. This message was
given in Prishtina by the United States Deputy Assistant State
Secretary, Philip Reeker.

Reeker declared that the agreement brings stability, and reminded that the amnesty law is part of the agreement.

“The harlequins who want to play and be violent must think twice for what they are doing to the rest of the country. The Kosovo citizens should think about this as well, because this behavior is unacceptable and some media have distorted the facts. I encourage everyone to read and understand that this law has come out of dialogue and reconciliation has been reached in Brussels, supported by the United States of America and the European Union. I encourage you to show the seriousness that Kosovo has shown in the past”, Reeker declared.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, promised to continue the implementation of this agreement that according to Thaci has been welcomed by most of the citizens and political parties, and that it is giving its effects in northern Kosovo.

Reeker met with the Kosovo President, Atifete Jahjaga; the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa; and the leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj. But he did not meet with the leader of the Self-Determination Movement, Albin Kurti, whose party is against dialogue and the agreement with Serbia, and who also organized protests for blocking the ratification.

“We will meet with the Self-Determination Movement leaders when they start behaving as normal people in a modern democracy, and when their opinions will be constructiive. I think that what we have seen so far is a behavior that should be avoided. Let’s be serious and constructive. Who goes against this process, goes against the United States of America”, Reeker underlined.
