One day after The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, declared that
the opposition has stolen votes from the left coalition, the Central
Election Commission decided to recount all the Lezhe District ballot
boxes. The same decision was taken for Shkoder.
What we saw was a horrible manipulation. I propose to recount the entire district”, declared the Central Election Commission member, Klement Zguri.
The proposition of the oldest CEC member was supported with same arguments by his colleague, but was contradicted by the left legal representatives at CEC.
“You are stepping above every law and precedent. You will be held responsible for this. You must keep this in mind”, declared the legal representative of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Ilirian Muho.
Being in front of this surprise decision of the Central Election Commission, which is not the object of the complaint request of any party, but iot is initated by the members of this institution, the left representatives feel there are strong shadows of doubt.
The ballot boxes have stayed for more than two weeks in the Lundra depots, and based on the precedent of 2011 for Tirana, the Socialists say that in these depots the boxes were filled with new ballots, creating a manipulated result for the Municipality of the Albanian capital, and they suspect that the same thing is happening here.
“This shows that the Commission is changing the number illegally and staining the electoral process. It is a desperate effort to find a legal argument. Our decision remaisn that the Central Election Commission is being used politically in the last minutes of the outgoing government, and they are trying to stain the electoral process. They want to repeat what happened in 2011”, declared the Socialist Party representative, Genc Gjoncaj.
With a similarly unexpected decision, the four CEC member decided to recount the ballots in Shkoder, after a request made by the Republican Party for only some ballots.
This shows why the Central Election Commission had been postponing the decision for Shkoder, although the complaint for this district was made before Lezhe.
On the case of Shkoder, the Central Election Commission had decided to accept some videos as evidence, but they rejected the same evidence made a few days earlier by the Socialist Movement for Integration for Kukes, with the argument that videos are not considered evidence at the Central Election Commission.
“What happened that you accepted the video for the Republican Party, but you refused it for Kukes?”, protested the Socialist Movement for Integration representative, Mr.Muho.
“Lezha was evidence of the manipulation made by the ballot counting groups”, declared Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission, Lefteri Lleshi,
“We have information that you are interfering in Lunder. I warn you once again to not touch those ballot boxes”, Muho declared.
The CEC will start recounting the 248 ballot boxes of Lezhe this Saturday. There will be eight groups for the recount, making it the first precedent of a recount of all district votes.
Regardless the constant request of the Socialist Party in 2009 to recount the ballots in some districts, the Central Election Commission refused to open any of them.
DP: Rama manipulated votes in Lezhe
The Democratic Party accused the Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama, of manipulating the votes in Lezhe.
The Democratic Party Parliament Member, Gerti Bogdani, declared in a press release that the opening of 10 polling station boxes in Lezhe showed the manipulation made by the Socialist Party with the votes.
“The review and opening of the 10 voting centers in Lezhe showed the real face of Edi Rama, based on drugs, crime and prostitution. Edi Rama and his band, after disappearing the original tables submitted the falsified ones”, Bogdani declared.
Bogdani underlined that although the Democratic Party has accepted the result of the elections that were led by Rama’s manipulation, they will never accept any result won by the murderers and traffickers of Edi Rama.
