The Red and Black Alliance reacted after the meeting of the Foreign
Minister Edmond Haxhinasto with the Greek diplomat, Ioannis Zepos.
“The government must make transparent the talks with the Greek diplomacy. We are against closed-door meetings between ministers”, declared the representatives of the Alliance.
According to them, Greece cannot condition Albania for the EU integration, and the Greek Minister Lambrinidhis ignored the decision of the Albanian Constitutional Court.
“The government should make no compromise with the Albanian matter”, declared the representatives of the Red and Black Alliance in their reaction.
Greece is secretly intensifying the diplomatic efforts for the Albanian population registration. The General Secretary of the Greek Foreign Ministry, Ioannis Zeops, visited Tirana this Thursday.
Together with the Greek ambassador in Tirana, they met the Albanian Foreign Minister, Edmond Haxhinasto, after having discussed a series of issues with his Albanian homologue, Gazmend Turdiu.
Diplomatic sources from the Foreign Ministry have unofficially confirmed that the Census was part of this meeting. But the press communication of the Foreign Ministry says that in the meeting was expressed the common will for development and further concretization of good neighboring relations.
Zepos underlined that Greece will continue to be Albania’s biggest supporter for the EU integration, by offering concrete assistance.
Mr. Ioannis Zepos arrived in Tirana on his own request, and followed an agenda created by the Greek Embassy in Tirana. Even their movements in Tirana were made with the car of the Greek Embassy, not with those of the Albanian state, as usually in official visits. After the foreign ministry, the Greek official visited the Prime Minister Berisha at his office.
The Greek backstage diplomatic actions, and the conviction of the Albanian government to fulfill Athens’ caprices is seen in the cable of the US Embassy, one of which says that the Greek embassy tried to avoid bringing it to the US attention. For this reason, another cable says that the Albanian government agreed to change the maritime borders with Greece in exchange of the SAA ratification.
