The newly elected Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, on his first
visit in Kosovo as Albania’s Government leader, was received with high
honors by Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci, with the Guard of Honor
on Prishtina’s main square “Ibrahim Rugova”.
Both Prime Ministers met in Prishtina’s main government see, and 10 members of Albania’s cabinet attended a meeting with Thaci’s government ministers.
In a joint press conference, the Prime Ministers of Kosovo and Albania declared that they agreed on the start of a strategic co-governing between Albania and Kosovo, starting with joint meetings of both executives.
“This means that good wills and written goal that have been left unfinished will be replaced by a time when they will be realized in the joint meetings of both governments, with ministers that will report to both governments on the duties for what both have agreed for. I believe that this will bring results that will make both governments push the cooperation forward”, Rama declared.
Thaci asked Rama’s government to intensify the lobbying for Kosovo’s international recognition and emphasized Kosovo’s interest to be included in the Trans Adriatic Pipeline project, and to complete the Kosovo-Albania power-line interconnection.
“We discussed the importance of Kosovo to be included in the TAP network, and Rama promised to work personally on this. We agreed to work more actively for the completion of the Kosovo-Albania power-line interconnection. Kosovo has completed its obligations and we trust that Albania will do the same too”, Thaci declared.
Kosovo’s dialogue with Serbia, especially the agreement of April 19th, has not been left aside in the conversation of both Prime Ministers. Rama congratulated the Kosovo authorities for being able to close a dark chapter with Serbia.
“This is an agreement that has definitively closed the bloody history and the paralyzing inertia of former Yugoslavia. They have turned a new page of our story, and what will be written on it is up to us. A history where peace will bring progress for all of us”, Rama underlined.
The friendship that exists for years between Thaci and Rama was noted even this time. The Prime Minister of Kosovo referred several times to Rama with the word “friend”, what made journalists to compare Thaci’s words with the one used for the Turkish Prime Minister, whom he called “brother”. “I can call him a brother too, because the brother of my brother is my brother too”, Rama declared.
Rama continued his agenda by attending a meeting with the Kosovo President, Atifete Jahjaga, and the Parliament Speaker, Jakup Krasniqi.
“Let’s unify the Albanian agenda”
Rama speaks with the Kosovo Parliament Members and accuses Macedonia
“Let’s turn borders into invisible lines for all Albanians”. This was the sentence that followed the speech of the Albanian Prime Minister in the Parliament of Kosovo. He addressed to the Kosovo Parliament Members with the promise to work for unifying the entire Albanian space.
“I am not here to continue the rhetoric of the love of the motherland for the daughterland, but for developing a strategic alliance between equals, between Albania and Kosovo; to return the extraordinary possibilities of the new era into success and development in the unified path of Europe. The border is the past, but the future has no borders. For the past to not condition our future, there is only one thing to do: turn our border lines invisible and not look at them”, Rama declared.
Rama emphasized the readiness of the Albanian government to strengthen the normalization of relations between Serbs and Albanians, especially after April 19th, which has marked the start of a new era. He also underlined that his government will engage to resolve the issues of the Albanians in Macedonia.
“Our readiness is related to our joint work to bring to life a clear policy regarding the rights of the Albanian people in the region. A priority are the rights of the Albanians in Macedonia, whose case is very concerning, because the agreements taken in cooperation with the international factor are not being respected. Then there is the respect that exists among us, the respect of the strategic allies that makes us give energy to the Cham case, certainly that according to the friendship treaty”, Rama underlined.
Based on the problems created with the export of Kosovo’s potatoes to Albania, Rama promised that these problems will never be repeated. The Albanian Prime Minister spoke about the approach of the cultural, sportive and educational activities.
“It’s unforgettable for me the confession of a parent in Presheva. When I saw Portokalli on Top Channel I couldn’t understand anything at the beginning. Then my child explained it to me, because he understood your dialect much better. Docufest in Prizren was also impressive, and pardon my ignorance, but only this year I knew it was held. We don’t have the luxury to not know what happens on our lands when it is about cultural and artistic activities”, Rama declared.
This long speech of the Albanian Prime Minister, which he started by quoting Rexhep Qosja and closed it with a greeting from Faik Konica, was also commented by opposition parties.
The Democratic League of Kosovo was the harshest on the fact that Rama never mentioned the contribution that Ibrahim Rugova gave to the creation of the state of Kosovo. The LDK leader, Ismet Beqiri, declared that Rama had avoided this on purpose, saying that this will remain on the conscience of the Prime Minister of Albania.
Rama pays homage at Rugova’s grave
“Without him, Kosovo’s dream would not have turned to reality”
The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, honored the former President of Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova. After paying homage on his grave, Rama declared that without Rugova’s contribution, the dream of Kosovo would have not become reality. Rama also declared that this dream would not have become reality without the other protagonists who fought and gave their lives, and who are working even today for it.
“Thank you for being here, in the place where lies the man without whom Kosovo that we have today would not have become reality, as it would not have become reality without the other protagonists who gave their lives for it and keep working relentlessly even today”, Rama declared.
Rama also visited Prekaz, where he honored the fighter Adem Jashari and the other martyrs.
