The German daily newspaper “Bild” wrote that after Libya, Albania is the next country that refuses to host refugees travelling to the EU.
The newspaper quotes Rama in harsh words: “We will never accept refugee camps”, and “having such camps means throwing people as toxic remains, which nobody wants”.
Rama, according to Bild, said that Albania is always there to contribute with managing Europe’s heavy burden, but this doesn’t mean that the country should hold the burden of everyone else.
“No country can control the refugee crisis alone”, Rama said for Bild, adding that “turning Albania into the dam of asylum seekers, would be a dangerous choice.
“The centers will not be accepted even if the EU cedes anything”, the newspaper quotes Rama, “and I have never thought of doing any heroic gesture just to receive an OK for the negotiations”.
Rama goes on by praising the decision of Merkel and of the German people for welcoming refugees in 2015, defending this way the reputation of Europe in a way that would have made its founding fathers very proud.
