The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, promised to the businessmen that
the Albanian government will pay every obligation that they owe to
private businesses.
“This money must go to the economy as soon as possible, because economy is one and because we don’t want to boast by cutting inauguration tapes on roads built by private companies who have not been paid yet, and that do not finish the projects. We will not boast with inaugurations made for works that are not part of the budget. We have no intention to boast with imaginary successes that are in fact the tragedy of the businessmen in this country. If we cannot pave new roads, we will not pave until all debts will be paid”, Rama declared.
The Minister of Finances, Shkelqim Cani, declared that the government has identified the source where the necessary funds for these debts will come, a debt that according to the International Monetary Fund mounts up to 560 million USD.
“We are trying to not pay the debt through the financial system and internal debts. We are trying to realize it through the international community, mainly through the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and other institutions”, Cani declared.
For the government, paying old debts is not only critical to not allow the ruining of the country, but it is also a precondition that will make way to a new chapter of relations between the government and the business.
“Businesses will sit to discuss all daily issues with the government, all problems between private businesses and the Customs, the Tax Office, impartial decisions and we will never hesitate to cooperate and remove from the tax and customs offices any individual that on behalf of the Albanian state dares damaging any of the business operators”, Rama declared.
Arben Ahmetaj, Minister for Economic Development, declared that trust to businesses has returned, and this is the column on which the Albanian government has based the economic recovery.
“We are convinced that after having passed this very responsible, difficult and loaded period, due to what we have found, we will return a qualitative long-term economic growth with more than 4%”, Ahmetaj declared.
Concessions, Rama: “We are verifying the data given during the electoral campaign.
Answering to the interest of those who were present about concessions, Rama declared that after the June 23rd elections, the government is verifying another category of privatization.
“Yesterday we started the verification of the decisions taken during the electoral campaign. They were taken without transparency and without asking anyone if they have any offer on private individuals or state owned lands that cannot have any ownership claims from people who are connected to the government. We cannot leave them. There are hundreds of hectares and others are surfacing now”, Rama declared.
