Rama: We will clean the judiciary

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, declared that the modernization
of all government sectors is the main Government objective for
eradicating corruption.

According to him, the weakest link in the government chain is the judiciary and the fact that it has plunged in injustice.

“We have a judiciary system that is a shame for our nation, a phenomenon known around the world. We know it, every Albanian knows it, the international partners know it, the entire world knows it”, Rama declared.

The Prime Minister said that the judiciary reform would continue as a battle without political influences.

“We have promised to realize this reform in the judiciary. We have started it and we will push it forward with determination, without trying to convince those who don’t want the judiciary reform or those who want it in a much slower pace”, Rama declared.

The US Ambassador to Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, said that the fight against corruption should continue without compromise, by avoiding every thought that it might be politicized.

“The fight against corruption requires dedication with passion and a methodical approach. The laws and the reforms should be well thought, focused and consulted with the interest groups. It is decisive to avoid the perception that the fight against corruption is politicized. Although some steps have been taken, corruption of the past years in Albania should have noted the need for improvement, which are significant for discovering, investigating and prosecuting corruption and financial crime. The friends of Albania have also noted the importance of how this fight should be addressed. It is important to remove all obstacles, so that all measures can be accelerated”, Arvizu declared.

Minister Kodheli was as direct as Prime Minister Rama. She favored a non-preferential fight, but that is based on professionalism.

“During this year we have done what should have been done. This fight keeps being on the focus of the Ministry of Defense, and this effort will be valid even for the future. The results have spoken by now”, she declared.

The German ambassador to Tirana valued the job done so far by the Albanian government and expressed the full support of his country, and also appealed for more concrete results in the fight against corruption.
