In his first interview as the next Prime Minister of Albania on Top
Channel’s “Top Story”, hosted by Sokol Balla, the Socialist Party
leader, Edi Rama, spoke about a gratitude tour throughout Albania to
greet everyone who contributed in the deep victory of the alliance for
European Albania.
Rama declared that the Albanians defeated a model in a spectacular way, and now they have a huge challenge to build a new model.
“I’m not experiencing it as a personal triumph, and I am very sincere on this point. I don’t exaggerate when I say that the June 23rd elections gave us a victory that can be compared to a silent revolution through vote. For me it’s not a vote for changing a government with another, but a vote for a larger change”, Rama declared.
Rama was asked if there would be Constitutional changes to reestablish the broken Constitutional balances.
“We will discuss all these matters very strictly with our strategic partner. The decision making will be fruit of consulting. Even for these cases we will accept advises. Our mutual will is to treat this issue very soon. Tomorrow I will discuss with the Socialist Movement for Integration leader, Ilir Meta, for creating a plan for the work that is waiting us ahead, and to build a map of the ways that we will follow to treat a series of matters”, Rama declared.
Analyst Arjan Vasqari asked Rama if he would cancel the Tirana Regulation plan, created by Lulzim Basha:
“My experience with the surrounding of that Municipality as if it was the Kruja Castle, by all the government and their abuses to stop our work, doesn’t tell me that this is time to retaliate, but to prove that what the citizens paid when I was leading that castle, today should not be paid again, by a new surrounding, just because the castle is lead by someone else who has not been chosen by the citizens. The government’s relation with the Tirana municipality and all others will respect the citizens. It will not be dictated by the political and personal relation with the people who lead the local government”, Rama declared.
Rama asked Balla: “The media during these days has been saying that there is an unusual pace of hiring and firing people in the public administration, and many tenders are being declared. When the country has a government and a Prime Minister until September, will you be an opposition during this time?”
“Every tender and every spending that will be made during these two months is being monitored and it will be investigated very soon. A minister today took the responsibility to start relations with bidders, and to remake the procedures from scratch. This will not go without consequences”, Rama replied.
As for the relations of the new majority with the opposition, Rama declared: “We will make a radical change in the relation of the opposition with the government. I don’t think that you will ever listen me attacking the opposition with insults and offenses, and I will never use the battle with the opposition as a way to avoid confrontation with the real problems of our country”, Rama declared.
