The Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama, declared during an interview for
Top-Channel that the opposition will not respond to the invitations of
the Democratic Party for amending laws.
Regarding the new constitutional amends, Rama and the opposition have started a consultation process with experts about this necessity, publicly declaring the will of reflecting about the errors of the Socialist Party during the Constitutional Amends.
Top Channel: Mr. Rama, the international community gave their clear stance about the elections in Tirana, by even giving strong statements. However, you have asked that the responsibilities of what happened should be addressed clearly, in order to avoid this situation from being repeated.
Rama: Not because this would change anything with a theft that was sealed by a Court decision, but there’s no doubt that it would create the basis for opening a serious process of deep reformations in the Constitution, the law and institutions, and its implementation.
Top Channel: Some days ago, the Democratic Party sent you a letter through their Head of Parliamentary Group, inviting you for the election reform. You haven’t given any official answer. Do you have an answer for this Democratic Party request?
Rama: We are not talking about amends, and we will not accept any dialogue for amending one law here, one there. We are talking about a process that must be serious, dignified for a country that aspires to enter the European Union, guaranteed by the international community and focused on the fallen rule of law.
Top Channel: there are many voices about Constitutional amends. Can you say something more about it?
Rama: We have started a consultation process with experts, constitutionalists and opinionists for analyzing and addressing this necessity, by expressing our will publicly, in order to reflect on the errors that we might have made in different constitutional amends, errors that should not be paid by the Albanian citizens, but that should be fixed in order to fulfill all obligations that have been clearly presented by the international community.
Top-Channel: How will the opposition be this September? What do you mean with an all-inclusive opposition?
Rama: We won May 8th elections as an opposition resistence. The next elections will be won as a governing alternative. The question that all Albanians raise is “who are we, the Socialist Party and the opposition. Why and how will we guarantee this change? We guarantee that this question will receive the answer it deserves, and Albania will soon return in the road of its great European aspiration.
