The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, admitted that yesterday’s
decision from the European Council was not the most optimal, but he
underlined that the member countries have given maximal evaluations to
the reforms made by the government in its first three months, and asked
for more time just to see a continuity.
“Certainly that it wasn’t the best decision from the European family, but this decision only raises our determination for deeper reforms and more radical changes in every area. And the government’s work has received the most postiive notes from the European family”, Rama declared.
He noted that “one of the things that affected yesterday’s decision was also the weak performance of the former government, which didn’t give any evidence of good will, while the new government is doing the contrary”.
“Most of the member countries during these months have told us that they need more time. That’s because they still have fresh memories of the past government, full of laws and without enough good will”, Rama underlined.
“Even to the most hesitant we gave evidence that Albania deserved more after the June 23rd elections. After this we received more support from the most hesitating countries. June was appointed because it was the convincing evidence that we gave in less than three months of governing”, he declared.
Rama promised that his cabinet would show the Union other evidence until June and even later, to build for our people the path of European Albania.
The Prime Minister then listed some of the other cases that affected the rejection, such as the economic crisis in Europe, unemployment and immigration.
As for the opposition, which blames the government for the decision, the government leader declared that the majority will not be part of the slur game.
“However, it wasn’t our plan to celebrate as winners if the decision would have been positive, and we have no intention to enter any slur game with the opposition”, Rama declared.
