The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, said in an interview for the
Serbian newspaper “Blic” that he greeted the initiative of Serbian
President Alexandar Vucic to start an internal dialogue in Serbia about
Kosovo.
As for Vucic’s opinion about Serbs having to lose some things that are already lost, Rama said that reading that he felt the pain and impressive determination of Vucic.
“It was a good leadership gesture. Vucic brought a much more courageous vision for the future of Serbia and Kosovo”, Rama says, and that the solution would be for Serbia to recognize Kosovo. The sooner it is, the better.
“It is simple. A full recognition of Kosovo by Serbia. I know it is easier said than done, when you put yourself in Vucic’s position. But let’s say that we have worked hard, all of us, for a solution. We need to keep in mind that finding a solution to this problem is for the best of everyone, not just for Albanians”, Rama said.
When asked about the stance of the Serbian Foreign Minister, Ivica Dacic, who said that Kosovo should exchange lands with Serbia, Rama said that this doesn’t help.
“What helps is exactly what your president has started as an internal dialogue, which would be logical to start in Kosovo and Albania as well”, Rama said.
The Prime Minister was asked about the declaration that caused strong reactions in Serbia, as regards the possibility of Albania and Kosovo uniting if the European integration for the region is dimmed.
“What I said was that it was a trivial conclusion, not a plan, threat or desire. Certainly, if the European Integration horizon is closed for us, you don’t need to be a scientist to understand that the ghosts of the past may reappear again”, Rama said, adding that the relations between Serbia and Albania are better than ever before.
