The Albanian Prime Minister declared from Berlin that Albania has completed the criteria set by Europe for the candidate status.
“We have passed the test, although I believe that Albania deserved the candidate status since December. Postponing it didn’t bring anything good to Albania, to the region, to Europe or to the general European advancing process”, Rama declared.
Rama declared at the Driedrich Ebert Foundation that the status is an anti-depressive pill for societies that aspire to join the European family.
“The candidate status is completely different from the European Union accession, but it is also something that is not directly tied to the negotiations. The candidate status is some kind of anti-depressive pill for societies that need hope, while they are not completely ready to be part of the European Union or to open the negotiations”, Rama declared.
He said that the European future is a necessity for Balkan.
“There is no reason to not give the status, because giving it means actually giving nothing and profit much more, because there will be more hope and trust among the people for the future in an area that has faced difficulties due to the economic problems, the high unemployment rate and social issues. It is also important to see what Balkan is becoming today to understand it”, Rama declared.
Rama suggested that Albania needs to find a way for not connecting the attention and cooperation of the European Union with Balkan and the relation of the Union with any other country. “The individual path of every country is something, and regional cooperation is something else”, the Prime Minister underlined.

The opposition asked the Prime Minister Rama to inform the German partners during his visit who is he governing Albania with.
“In his last visit in Germany, the Chancellor reminded Rama the importance of the rule of law and of the judiciary. What will he say this time in Berlin? That he has appointed in Vlore someone who has been involved in a kidnapping in Italy? That in another district he has appointed someone who has been sentenced to 16 years in prison in Greece, for drug traffic?”
