In the two-day NATO summit in Wales, the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi
Rama, accompanied by the Foreign Minsiter, Ditmir Bushati, met with his
Greek counterpart, Antonis Samaras, and with the Greek Foreign Minister,
Evangelos Venizelos.
The Prime Minister’s press office says that in this meeting they shared the respective views for several matters between our countries, and emphasized the readiness to push them further.
“The Prime Minister emphasized the will of the Albanian government to give a new dynamic to the mutual cooperation in the spirit of good partnership between neighbors, and to continue with the regional cooperations and initiatives that are based on the new reality of our region. A special interest was given to projects of regional importance in infrastructure and energy, which have been discussed in the Berlin Summit”, the press release says.
The Greek News Agency “AMNA” says that one of the topics that were discussed was the new territorial reform in Himara.
Samaras has asked his Albanian counterpart to personally intervene and confront these problems and also the nationalistic claims of the Chams, as the notification says.
The Greek Prime Minister added that the respecting of the human rights is part of the EU membership process. Another problem that was treated in this meeting, as reported by AMNA, was the maritime border agreement rejected by the Constitutional Court of Albania, for which the Greek Prime Minister said that the position of Greece is for resolving it based on the international laws.
The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, thanked the Greek coutnerpart for the support that Greece has given to Albania for the membership matters. He declared that he is aware about the sensitivity of Prime Minister Samaras regarding the Greek minority in Albania, and guaranteed him that not only there has never been any purpose to damage this minority, but that Albania will always respect their rights.
AMNA reports that the Prime Ministers discussed the danger of religious fundamentalism and about the cooperation between the law enforcing agencies of both countries.
The Albanian government leader met with the new Turkish President, former Prime Minister Recep Tayip Erdogan.
