The maximal results of our sportsmen, Erkand Qerimaj and Daniel Godelli,
in this year’s European Weightlifting Championship, and together with
the excellent results of Luiza Gega in the World Championship of
Athletics, have received the attention of the Albanian government.

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, welcomed these sportsmen together with their trainers in a meeting.

“I want to share with you a project that is not a gift for Erkand, Daniel or the new generation, but a gift that our champions made to this sport after 20 years, a sport in which Albania has and will always have champions”, Rama declared.

The “Dinamo” complex will turn into an Olympic Park, where there will be a weightlifting gym and a building where all sportive federations will be gathered, and which are located now at the “Qemal Stafa” stadium.

Another step that has a four year deadline, according to the Prime Minister, is the construction of a handball gym with a capacity of 1500 seats.

After the promises of the Ministers of Sports and Education for returning sport’s attention in schools by adding three hours each week in the pre-university education, Parliament Member Fidel Ylli declared that the government is keeping the promsies of the sport draft-program.

The coach of the Weightlifting National Team and of Erkand Qerimaj, Mr.Zef Kovaci, thanked the government for returning more attention to sport.

“I congratulate the Prime Minister. I met with Minister Tahiri 20 hours after the matches, at the airport. He offered something without us even asking. The Minister of Education and Sports was outside in the rain, and the sportsmen were thrilled. We are proud of these boys and we hope to have more like tham”, the coach declared.

The Prime Minister gave a one-year deadline for the construction of the new weightlifting gym, as the first urgent project.

“I hope that in the next year we will celebrate for this complex that will be inaugurated by Erkand and Professor Zef. I think that a Prime Minister should not cut ribbons in inaugurations, and I will not. The others before me have cut plenty of ribbons and Albania is out of ribbons for at least 20 years”, Rama declared.
