“Pope Francis has responded positively and officially to my invitation
for visiting Albania soon”, declared the government leader, Edi Rama,
from the city of Durres, known for the ties of Rome since ancient times.
“I believe that this is a rare privilege for Albania and the Albanian people, a wonderful omen for our country in the verge f a decision that the European Union needs to take for the candidate status”, Rama declared.
The Pope Francis visit in Tirana on September 21st is also special for the fact that Tirana is his first visit in Europe, since elected Pope, but it is also special for the quick response to the invitation of the Albanian government.
The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of this visit in Albania, a country with old ties with Vatican and that deserves to come to light.
This is the second visit that a Pope holds in our country, since the fall of the communist iron curtain. The first one was from Pope John Paul II on April 23rd 1993, giving the message of freedom and democracy in our country.
