Rama: No destructive battle within SP

Socialist leader Edi Rama commented the latest political developments
in Albania. The opposition leader explained the further steps that are
going to be taken by the Socialist Party if the Electoral College will
rule against them.

“We have warned what our further steps will be: will be the natural steps of a big and civil political force in its way towards the changement that Albania is so much awaiting. We won May 8th local elections as a strong opposition resistance, and we will win the general elections as a strong governing alternative. If the Electoral College will rule, and I hope not, in favor of the inexistent victory of the loser of Tirana Elections, by closing their eyes in front of the screaming evidence for the manipulation that was made at the Central Election Commission, it will be a heavy burden and with grave consequences for the country, and also for the law-violating judges, for Berisha himself and his stolen mandate”, Rama emphasized.

Asked about the political barriers that make the coalition with the Socialist Movement for Integration so difficult, since they are both left-centered parties, Edi Rama declared that more important than the coalitions it is to have honest and free elections.

“We won on May 8th more than four years before, when we had that party in coalition. We won even in Tirana, regardless the great amount of abuses that were carried out with the strength of the government, a strength that is established by dirty money, which flew this time as never before in an Albanian electoral campaign. For winning the next general elections, we do not need alliances with the forces of the old politics that are withholding Albania from progress”, Rama added.

When asked if there are destructive voices within the Socialist Party, Rama answered:
“The Socialist Party has no inner destructive war. Our discussions for coming to a common decision through different point of views are part of our democratic co-existence, same as the electoral democratic processes that we hold within our party, based on the voted statutory norms. Democracy is a process, and naturally, in the road of its consolidation, there are problems that must be faced with courage and ability. There are always lessons to be learned and changes to be made. We will take all necessary lessons by making the necessary changes”, Rama declared.

As for the removal of the mandate of Socialist MP Ilir Beqja, Rama declared that this case is still open, and it will be followed also to the Court of Strasbourg.
