Rama: Nishani is sentencing Zhiti once again. Vatican did not oppose him

Prime Minister Edi Rama listed six qualities that make Visar Zhiti a decent representative of Albania in Vatikan.

The Prime Minister had stayed silent about this issue so far. He didn’t answer to the president’s declarations for opposing the candidacy of Visar Zhiti as Ambassador to Vatican. The Prime Minister decided to break his silence and consider the opposition by the President as a new sentencing of Visar Zhiti, the poet who was imprisoned by the dictatorship, and who Rama called a rare Albanian with contributions to culture.

The Prime Minister doesn’t take in consideration the first argument of the President, who says that the government should consult him before proposing an ambassador. What the Prime Minister took in consideration was the President’s concern about Visar Zhiti mentioning the inquisition of the church, which, according to the President, could create misunderstandings between Albania and Vatican.

But Rama’s reaction left to be understood that the Holy See has accepted the historic mistakes of the inquisition, long ago.  After mentioning the support of the Foreign Commission, Rama denied any suggestion that Vatican was against the candidacy of Visar Zhiti.

The Ambassador of Vatican to Tirana has expressed a warm welcome for this proposition, with nice words about the person who turned into poetry the prayers of Mother Theresa. Rama said that the mentioning of the inquisition is as innocent as his poetries during communism.
