The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, and the Parliament Speaker, Ilir
Meta, held a joint press release this Friday, in which they spoke about
the electoral campaign and about their expectancies for the June 21st
elections.

Rama underlined that this was a very calm campaign, in which, for the first time, the public administration workers, or school students, were not used to fill the squares for the parties’ meetings. He underlined that the government’s budget was not touched this time, unlike in the past elections when a pit of debts was created for electoral purposes.  Rama also said that the Energy Distribution Company, for the first time has continued its operations without being part of the campaign. As for the children seen in electoral events, the Prime Minister explained:

“I don’t know any mechanism that would stop children from joining a bunch of people in an electoral meeting in small towns. You cannot stop young teenagers from wearing logos of SP or SMI”, Rama declared.  As for the vote purchasing accusations, he said that the only concrete evidence was brought by the Vlore Mayor.

The Socialist Movement for Integration leader, Ilir Meta, declared that this was a calm and civilized campaign. He appealed citizens to vote and be part of this historic moment. “Those who don’t vote don’t have the right to complain in the future”, Meta declared, and appealed commissioners and observers to guarantee a normal process. He also invited citizens to report any pressure or attempt for purchasing votes.

The SMI leader said that the standard of these elections is more important than the result.

“It doesn’t matter even if the opposition takes all the 61 municipalities. It is important to have standards”, Meta declared.
