Rama meets Tony Blair in London

17/07/2013 00:00

After their first meeting in May, the former British Prime Minister,
Toni Blair, welcomed in London the Albanian Socialist Party leader, Edi
Rama, as the elected Prime Minister of Albania. “A two hour meeting with
PM Blair for the first plans of the government”, was Rama’s comment on
Twitter right after the meeting.

Rama and Blair were careful to not say if they had met any concrete terms for Blair’s cooperation with Rama after the elections.

“I want to congratulate Rama for the extraordinary victory. This is the right moment for Albania to get united in the new government which has a new program. I am sure that there is good will in the international community for this government to progress and to be successful. The challenges are big and I know that there is an extraordinary determination to overpass them. As someone that sees himself as friend of Albania and the Albanians, we are happy to help with our best efforts. I wish you all the best, because I know how hard it is to be a Prime Minister. Good luck and you must know that there will be a great help from the international community, so that you can perform your duty well”, Blair declared.

“It’s a great pleasure that in the first meeting after the elections I am making a great friend who is a reference point for me and the Socialist Party. I am very happy that this victory allows us to have the help of a great friend, a Prime Minister that left his marks in the history lf England and the world, a man that never forgot to repeat that he is a great friend of Albania and of the Albanians”, Rama declared.

This declaration give signs about Blair’s agreement to help the new Prime Minister of Albania.

Rama made a clear division between Blair and Podesta saying that “there is a great rush to compare Blair with Podesta, which is paid by the Albanian tax payers to misinform the international opinion and to  make up for the image of a corrupted government”

After the meeting with Blair Rama gave an interview for BBC-s “Hard Talk”, a political show with direct questions led by Sara Montague.

Rama will stay this Thursday in Italy where he will meet the Italian Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
