The Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama, who will be Albania’s next Prime
Minister, met today with the Albanian President, Bujar Nishani.

This was their first meeting after Nishani was elected and after the Socialist Party won the June 23rd elections. This meeting that lasted 45 minutes was requested by Rama.

Regardless the high media attention, Rama did not say anything after the meeting, but he declared on Twitter that he met “the Albanian President for institutional cooperation and for having a flawless power transition. A positive meeting.”

The Presidency stated on their press release that “the Albanian President congratulated Rama for the victory and wished him success with the concrete implementation of their political program, on behalf of the Albanian citizens and the European future of Albania. Nishani and Rama exchanged their opinions about a soft power transition and for a good institutional cooperation that aims to reinforce democracy and the rule of law”.

The Presidential press office did not allow the media to film the moment when Rama entered Nishani’s office, two months before September 2nd, when he will officially become Prime Minister of Albania with the creation of the new Parliament. Even Rama’s photographer, Jutta Benzenberg, was left outside the President’s office. She had come to photograph the moment when Rama and the President would shake hands.
