The Albanian flag was waving this morning at the European Commission
platform, warning the official visit of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who was
welcomed also as chairman of the cooperation process for Southeastern
Europe countries.

The meeting between Rama and Juncker lasted less than one hour. There was no declaration for the media, due to the strict agenda of the President of the European Commission.

“President Juncker welcomed the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama. They discussed the perspective of the European integration of Albania, its constructive role in the region, and reaffirmed the commitment of the Commission for continuing helping our country, so that there can be progress with the European perspective. This is the first time that President Juncker meets the Albanian Prime Minister, since his election on top of the European Commission”, declared Margaritis Schinas, Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission.

“The President also expressed his deep concern for the damage caused by floods in some regions of Albania. The Commission is mobilizing the emergency aid through the European Union mechanism for civilian defense”, declared Natasha Bertraud, Spokesperson of the European Commission.

Prime Minister Rama was surprised when President Juncker introduced him to one of his assistants of Albanian origin, Shpresa Ismailaj.

He was accompanied by Ministers Ditmir Bushati and Klajda Gjosha in this official visit. Their visit was only with the President of the European Commission, Jean Claude Juncker, since the high representative, Federica Mogherini, was in a mission in Washington, as announced early this week even by Top Channel.

However, she will visit Tirana next week for the Ministerial meeting of Southeastern European countries.
