The first international personality that met Prime Minister Minister Edi Rama in Albania after taking duty on September 15th was the Macedonian President, George Ivanov.

The details of the meeting that lasted 45 minutes were given in a press
statement. Prime Minister Rama focused on strengthening the cooperation
between the two countries and that Macedonia’s integrity is important
for Albania.

Issues related to the respecting of the rights of
the Albanian people in Macedonia were also discussed. Rama expressed
Albania’s concern on this issue.

“We have been and we remain
concerned about the implementation of the agreements and mechanisms
agreed with the international partners, regarding the cohabitation
between the Macedonians and Albanians. On the other hand, Mr.President
expessed his concern for the fact that the Macedonian minority in
Albania needs more attention and more space, and I see this message not
only as an obligation of our state to every minority, but also as an
expression of a mere fact, that we cannot ask from others what we cannot
do for ourselves”, Rama declared.

The Macedonian President
expressed his pleasure of being the first guest of Prime minister Rama
and declared that the European future ofn Albania and Macedonia is a
unification factor, and as such it should be turned into concrete
projects.

“We had a constructive and significant conversation,
talking about issues that concern all of us in the region. Many joint
projects lie ahead and they will be a favor for everyone who lives in
the region. The conclusion of our conversation was that the European
Union is the instrument that might help and support all our countries.
It is the first time that we unite and this takes place on behalf of the
future. It is this European future that obliges us to fulfill the
European standards. By being dedicated to our European agenda, we will
narrow down the spaces for those who are against us by taking actions
that are not in favor of our citizens”, Ivanov declared.

Regardless
of the media’s interest to address questions to President Ivanov, this
was not possible because the protocol of the Macedonian presidency had
decided to not take questions by journalists.
