After meeting with the Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta, and with the US
Ambassador, Donald LU, PM Rama underlined that time of truth has come
for finally dividing the past from the future.
“The fraternity of crime with politics and the judiciary must be broken today, so that we don’t keep anymore judges who have released criminals”, Rama said, referring to the “vetting” process.
Encouraged by the claims of the Democratic Party to not allow political control on the justice system, PM Rama said that for this reason, the government accepted to not appoint judges with a simple majority, and not even with a qualified majority of 3/5th of the Parliamentary votes, but with 2/3rd, which they don’t have, and which makes the DP part of the decision making.
“The Democratic Party keeps telling lies because they fear the Justice Reform. We know that the nine members of the Constitutional Court were elected by the Democratic Party government. 16 out of 17 members of the Supreme Court were also appointed by the former government. Many with simple majority, not even with 3/5th, let alone 2/3rd”, Rama declared.
Rama considered the current system a rotten one, and the ones who know it better, according to the Prime Minister, are the relatives of the January 21st victims, the Gerdec tragedy victims, and the legal owners who were robbed by court orders.
“This is not a justice system, but a huge bazaar where justice is traded”, Rama said, adding that the Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, has escaped an investigation by showing a medical report and the case was dismissed for procedural reasons.
Rama underlined that the EU is ready to open Albania’s accession negotiation if the justice reform is passed, and the “red line” that should not be crossed was brought by the USA and the EU too, according to Rama.
