The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, declared that the law for opening
former communist files is a step forward for Albania, which, according
to him, will be listed by the side of those countries which have left
the past behind.

“The law for opening communist files has united Albania with countries that also experienced the communist hell, and which decided to leave it behind, not only by changing the system, but also by shedding light on the past”, Rama declared.

The Prime Minister said that these files have been used politically for 25 years by people who didn’t have the good will to open them.

“This law gives us instruments that study a human mission. I am proud that I am leading a majority which is making possible something for which others before us couldn’t find enough courage to accomplish”, Rama added.

According to Rama, these cases are an important milestone in the process of shedding light on the past, which, according to him, “will be painful, but we can’t allow the past to withhold our future”, Rama added.
