“With or without others, we will do everything with the majority given
by the Albanian people so that we can speak differently about corruption
after four years”, Rama declared, expressing his readiness to fight
corruption in a “life or death battle that will bring development or
leave our country backward”.
On the International Day Against Corruption, the government leader introduced the new national anti-corruption strategy for the next four years. Rama declared that the modernization of our state is a principal need, through structural reforms that can beat corruption, a bad heritage coming from the past government”, he underlined.
“If there is something that makes corruption in Albania different from other European Union countries, is that in Albania it is in every cell of the state, and we should not forget that it is not the people who corrupt the system, but the system that corrupts people. For this, I believe that our anti-corruption strategy is a basis to succeed, because it addresses the complex problem of the functionality of the Albanian state, which is in fact the basis of this corruption”, Rama declared.
The Minister for Local Matters, Bledi Cuci, presented the details of this strategic-structure.
“The strategic structure will be a document presenting the three main pillars: preventive approach, punitive approach and educational approach. The goal of this strategy is to get all partners involved so that they can give their thoughts and contribution for the development of these pillars, and their respective objectives”, Cuci declared.
The main leader of the OSCE presence, Robert Wilton, asked for the draft to be implemented.
“Corruption is not something that is coming from the airport. It is here, and tangible measures are needed to end this phenomenon. Citizens should know that corruption is being fought. The education and health systems are much damaged by corruption. The government cannot fight corruption alone, but the civil society, media and businesses should support it and contribute in creating the anti-corruption strategy and even in implementing the laws and reporting the corruption practices”, Wilton declared.
The European Union Ambassador, Ettore Sequi, considered this movement of the government as a realistic strategy. He underlined that the clarity of policies directly affects those who will implement it.
“Fight against corruption is an investment for the future, but it is not easy”, the European Union diplomat declared in Tirana.
