The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, visited the most northern village of Albania, recently turned into a tourist attraction.

Tourism remains the only chance of employment for the residents, but further tourism development requires its own infrastructure.

Kelmend was Rama’s first stop. Residents say that no Prime Minister has visited this area since independence.

Rama inspected the progress of the projects for turning this area into one of the biggest tourist attraction of Albania. In Leqet of Hoti, Rama stayed in a panoramic balcony that sees the construction of the road up to Tamara.

“It is the first time that a Prime Minister arrives here. You will enter in our local history for this. No one has visited this area during the communist regime or even during democracy. I hope you will make laws, not what Sali Berisha did”, one old man told the Prime Minister.

“I will turn back and visit you. We will finish the road and will connect Plava with Gucia. We will support tourism development in the entire area”, Rama said.

Then the Prime Minister visited Tamara and the main commune square, a project that is already over. But Rama asked to increase funds so that the project can continue.

In Tamara, Rama met with the residents of the area. He spoke about the government project to turn it into a tourist destination not only for winter, but for the entire year.

“We agreed with the Head of the Commune to continue with this project and allow those who have these commercial units to turn them to identity. All roofs should be returned as they were and all facades should be repired. The Integrated Alps Project includes Montenegro and Kosovo. Our support will be on the local people”, Rama promised.
