The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, declared that the government has decided that buildings damaged by the earthquake will be excluded from the reconstruction tax.
Rama said that there has been a balance of the damage, but the insurance policy should be made obligatory for all homes.
When asked if this would make builders increase the price of apartments, Rama said that life is more precious than any other price.
“I hope that those who felt this earthquake should not forget it, because we don’t need a second one like that. It is very important to have buildings completely guaranteed, so that you can have what you are paying and what you are entitled to”, Rama said.
“This has a double effect on buyers, but at least this earthquake showed us that even buildings that had code violations weren’t damaged by the tremor. Maybe they were built on strong foundations during the entire time. Home insurance is not something invented by us. It is widely used in the normal world. The houses that were insured are not waiting for our plans. They have already received assistance from the insurance companies. It is not only about earthquakes. There are floods and many other reasons that should be covered by an insurance system as you can see in the rest of the world”, Rama declared.
