Rama: “Free trade, next step for Balkan”

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, spoke for Wall Street Journal
about the meeting of six Western Balkan countries which is going to be
held today in Trieste, Italy.

“It will be an opportunity not only to discuss the EU integration path, but also to close the wounds of the past, unite to a single idea and create a platform based on economic growth. We will also be asked to support the creation of a regional economic zone. I would be in favor”, Rama writes.

The Prime Minister said that the lack of this cooperation has made Albania suffer for the past two decades, causing corruption and nepotism.

“This way we hope to win stability for our country and to continue together for a full EU accession”, Rama says.

The Prime Minister adds that this is Albania’s future priority. “If we keep modernizing and increase democracy in our governments, we will also lay the foundations for a big economic development. This is the reason why I will support the creation of a regional-economic area in Italy this week, as a foundation stone that will make it easier for our EU accession”, the article concludes.
