The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, led a meeting with the Socialist Party leader for Northern Albania in Lezha.
Sources from the SP told Top Channel’s journalist, Muhamed Veliu, that a part of the Prime Minister’s speech was related to the public image of local leaders and MPs.
Rama took Valdin Pjetri as an example and said that the problem with him was created due to the fact that the image verification commission created within the party cannot inspect documents abroad that go beyond the law limits. For example, Italy’s legal limit is to issue criminal records for only the past 10 years. And if the documents published by the DP are authentic, they have obtained them illegally, according to Rama.
“They are photographed paying bribes for those documents. We couldn’t do this and we will never do this. But we must find a solution, because we can’t take the risk and make it a burden to the community, when, for example, a self-declaration results fake after the elections are held, creating this way a huge vacuum and disappointment”, Rama said.
Top Channel has learned that Rama’s solution to this situation would be proposing the Parliament to deposit the documents before the registration deadline so that there is enough time for the law enforcing institutions to make the verification. The individuals, who lie to a party and to an entire society, should be the only ones bearing the consequences. But it is a responsibility of the party to react against bad elements. With these legal amend, those who lie will be immediately removed from the party”, Rama declared.
