Rama defends waste law: “Only three customs checkpoints for waste”

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama listed his arguments in defense of the waste material law.

He said that the law was discussed more than one year ago with the groups of interests, and that even environmentalists support it, since it will preserve nature.

Rama said there will be only three Customs border checkpoints for the waste import, for a better control. He answered to the accusations of the opposition by saying that the test lab is funded by the EU.

“EU would not finance a bad lab for this, with money from their tax payers. Do you think that the EU would fund a lab for the craziness that you are mentioning here?” Rama said.

The law will have positive effects for the budget too. The PM declared that for every kilogram of imported waste, there will be a 100 ALL tax, and for every kg collected within our country, there will be a 50 ALL tax.

Rama made comparisons with other countries of the region.

“No country of the region has ever tied the import of these wastes with license and infrastructure. In those countries you can receive a licence to serve the industry, but here, if you have a factory licensed by the EU, you can receive a license for the factory to realize all the hours”, Rama said.

But the DP says the law only serves to the mafia, that’s why they will not vote it.
