Edi Rama visited the Presidency today, where he held a meeting with the
Head of the Albanian State, who decreed the request to declare him Prime
Minister of Albania.
This development came 24 hours after President Bujar Nishani received the majority’s request to decree Rama as the new Head of the Albanian Government.
The decree signed by Nishani was made public by Edi Rama on his Facebook profile.
Then the Presidency made an official announcement on their website, writing: “Based on the proposal presented by the Alliance for European Albania Coalition, the Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, decreed the appointment of Edi Rama as Prime Minister of Albania and tasked him with the duty to create the new government”.
“During the meeting, President Nishani congratulated Mr. Rama and wished him for a good job on his new duty. Both leaders shared mutual views on the institutional cooperation”.
Two hours after this decree, the Socialist Party Communication Department announced tha Rama, as Prime Minister, has sent to the President his written request for the decreeing of the new government cabinet.
The decree of the government cabinet is not expected to be delayed, although the Constitution leaves the President seven days.
President Nishani might decree the government this Wednesday, making way to a parliamentary session in which Rama would introduce the government program.
The day after the Ministers will be voted by the Parliament, they will go to the Presidency for the oath ceremony in front of the President.

Parliament Members take oath, Vasil Bicaj refuses mandate
The Parliament Members of this legislature took their oath today at 11:00. Parliament Member Armando Subashi, as leader of the Commission, declared that Parliament Member Vasil Bicaj refused to take the oath as an Parliament Member. Bicaj will be replaced by Mhill Fufi, the candidate next to him on the Democratic Party list for Lezhe.
Meta elected as Parliament Speaker with 91 votes in favor
The new Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta, was voted today in this post with 91 votes in favor, 41 against and one abstaining. 137 Parliament Members were present in the process, while former Prime Minister Sali Berisha left the floor right after the voting.
“The new Parliament needs to push forward the European Agenda and leave the conflictual spirit behind”, Meta declared in his first speech as Parliament Speaker.
Meta underlined that the Albanians want their leaders to make reforms and improve their lives.
“Let’s walk towards the reformation of our economic model, exploiting this way our natural resources and managing the human resources for the better”, Meta declared.
