The Albanian PM, Edi Rama, accused the previous government of abusing
with the Economic Assistance Funds towards companies, by going against
EU laws.
“The Economic Assistance paid by the Albanian government from 2007 to 2012 has been almost as big as the unpaid debts their government left behind, in our case, 631 million EUR. A serious problem is that the Albanian government used this assistance openly against EU laws, and often used it as unfair competition and privilege”, Rama said.
The PM said that this assistance has changed radically in the past three years.
“For the first time, we have a mechanism that connects the government assistance with employment, helping the sectors which guarantee more employment. In 2015, the sctors which benefited more were agriculture with 25% of the total, aqueducts and canalization with 7%, transportation with 7% and employment encouragement with 4.6%”, he said.
According to him, the scheme to benefit this assistance is now not only according to the EU laws, but also more transparent.
