The conference “Reforming of the judiciary system in Albania” was a good
occasion not only to discuss the justice reform, but also to see
political actors sitting in front of each other in a time of harsh
political debates.

Everyone tried to behave, but the differences were shown once again in this meeting called by the President, who made the opening and met with the opposition leader, Lulzim Basha.

After the President, Basha met the Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta, who then shook hands with President Nishani and Edi Rama. However, the opposition and majority leaders preferred to avoid each other.

This is the clearest description of the differences that the political leaders have abuot the judiciary reform and other issues.

This division was present even with members of the judiciary system. On the first row was sitting the Vice Chairman of the High Council of Justice, Elvis Cefa, against whom the Parliament has started a discharging procedure. Three rows behind him was Gjin Gjoni, the most controversial judge for the moment. Gjoni has been accused for hiding hundreds of millions of ALL in assets, and the HCJ resisted to the request of the Minister of Justice to discharge him.

Gjoni was present in this meeting, although he is one of the strongest arguments of the majority for implementing this reform. He heard the critics of Rama for the judiciary system, and how the judiciary system needs a deep reform.

By the end of the conference, Prime Minister Rama left the room without greeting with anyone. The opposition leader, on the other hand, shook hands with some judges and prosecutors who felt more comfortable by these greetings.
