Rama-Basha meeting, back to square one

Edi Rama and Lulzim Basha had agreed in principle to meet each other for
dialogue, a meeting intermediated also by the US Ambassador, Donald Lu.
But today’s developments showed the meeting was just in theory.

“I am not going to talk about technical governments or a date for the elections, for the simple reason that I have been waiting for the past two days for the opposition to decide when and where they want to meet. I prefer their protest tent, but I can meet them anywhere else. We can meet alone, with our allies, whatever they want”, Rama said in Parliament.

The Albanian Prime Minsiter, Edi Rama, didn’t change his position about the technical government and the option for postponing the elections, but he expressed his readiness to give the opposition everything for a deep electoral reform.

“Everything related to the laws, the mechanisms of the electoral process, is possible for us”, Rama underlined.

But the opposition read this declaration differently. “This is not proposing dialogue, but monologues. This is the place and the time to tell you that we will never accept useless monologues”, said the opposition leader, Lulzim Basha.

Basha added that the opposition is open to discuss a technical government and its mandate. “But if the old republic answers only with games, then we will tell them that our answer is confrontation until victory”, Basha added.
