Rama: Balkan in danger by extremism, EU must save it

The visit in Bucharest was seen as the right moment for introducing the book “Kurban” of the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama.

His counterpart and friend, Victor Ponta, was together with the Romanian literary personalities in this ceremony, which was not only for promoting “Kurban”, but also for the views of Albania and Prime Minister Rama about delicate issues that challenge Europe today.

Rama says that such should be the behavior of Europe with the Balkan of religious diversities and the so-called ISIS, which, according to Rama, represents an extreme escalation of the Islamic radicalization.

We think that this escalation is a stronger reason for Europe and for the EU to have religious diversity. They must defend Balkan as soon as possible by accelerating the integration process, by not making tactical policies that have nothing strategic in relation with the Balkan countries. If, God Forbid, the Islamic extremism finds a way to turn into a religious nationalism movement in Balkan, it would be the end of what we have today”, Rama declared.

Rama explained from Bucharest why radical Islam might find terrain in some Balkan countries.

“Radical Islam finds it easier to penetrate under the psychological frustration due to EU hesitation to act quickly and unite Balkan with the EU. Islam acts exactly on this territory, by giving the idea that Europe is not our path, because Europe is a Christian club and that’s why they hesitate for us”, Rama argued.

The Prime Minister defended the idea that the reason why Balkan is in peace, is because all countries believe and are attracted by the EU accession dreams. He was also honored in Bucharest with the “Honoris Causa” title.
