The Biennale of Venice was a good occasion for the Albanian Prime
Minister, Edi Rama, to return to his old love as an artist. However, he
didn’t stop himself from mentioning politics, especially after he
visited Albania’s pavilion dedicated to architecture.
The pavilion was entitled “Possible Monuments Futuristically Unrealizable”, and it had the works of two Albanian artists, one named “Additions”, a series of pictures by Edi Hila, and the other one named “Kolona”, a video installation from Ardian Paci.
For Edi Rama, artist and politician, the presence of Albania in this Biennale was a presentation of the other Albania, that of culture and art.
“For me, as the Prime Minister of a country that from afar is seen as a place that generates anxiety, this is a very important battle. On one hand it is for investing more culture, and on the other hand, for presenting the other side of a country, which brings a more radiating and attractive panorama, represented by true great artists, not only through the visual art, but also through music in all creativity spheres”, Rama declared.
For all these reasons, and as someone who knows these artistic environments well, Rama described the pavilion of Albania as an widely accepted success of the Venice Biennale, an evaluation that was made public even by the curators.
“The most extraordinary thing with Albania is that at any time it has left strong tracks, but never complete and never concluded. Artists show how this situation that might seem a disatvantage for many Europeans, is in fact a chance for creating potentials, as a main instrument to imagine the architecture of the 21st century”, one of the curators declared.
“This project doesn’t end here, but it serves as the start of a debate that might continue especially in Albania. Because this is our goal, its echo in the place of origin”, one of the Albanian artists declared.
The pavilion of Albania was attended by curators Beyond Entropy Europe, winners of the “Golden Lion” at the Art Biennale in Venice 2013.
The Albanian Minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro, declared that beyond the artistic works, these are events where Albania is represented with dignity and speaks the same language with civilized nations.
