The The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, commented for the first time
the accusations of the opposition regarding the drug traffic, and
especially with the Divjaka event, which was considered by the
Democratic Party as a sufficient reason to call for protests and demand
the government’s resignation.
The Prime Minister held a press conference for the media and raised suspicions about a possible set up of the Divjaka situation, just to use it politically. He accused the opposition of damaging the country’s image.
“An airplane that after flies several times and gets photographed, in broad daylight, decides to land on the Divjaka beach. The opposition tries with everything they can to go against the national interest, without respecting the time that the truth needs in these cases, but they go out without caring that they damage not only the police, but the entire country. The people that brought this country to a desperate point of poverty, unemployment and dirt, are running in group to take advantage. Is there any Albanian who can believe that airplanes with drugs take off from Divjaka each day? Mosquitoes are the only things that fly in Divjaka”, Rama declared.
“It is not true that we didn’t take this matter seriously, but we cannot take seriously that airplanes take off every night from Divjaka”, Rama declared.
The Prime Minister added that the police is turning to their jobs, and this can be seen by the quantities of drugs that has been seized. As for the direct accusations against him, he sai:
“There is nothing true in the words that connect my name with traffic. They said the worst possible for the country that I love with all my heart, the country of the people that gave me the honor to lead their government. Be assured that I would never act against your interests. I didn’t become a Prime Minister to get rich, but to make our country richer, and to support you for everything”, he declared.
“I’m not saddened due to the barbarian political war. I give my mercy to those who have drowned in a moral and spiritual dirt. But whoever ties today’s Albania with yesterday’s Columbia, deserves only depreciation”, Rama declared.
The government leader expressed his readiness to continue with the fight against drug traffic and cutting the ties from the state. He said that the traffic has been with bigger proportions during the Democratic Party governors, but only now it is being hit by the police. Rama expressed his support and trust to the Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri.
“Every Albanian must be convinced for the integrity and ability of Saimir Tahiri and the Ministry of Defense. The fight that we have opened against drug traffic is only in the first phase. Lazarat was not created with us in government, it didn’t create votes for us, and was never protected by us. They were comfortable with the past government, and the state’s reaction will only be stronger”, Rama declared.
