After the meeting with the Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Fule,
the Socialist leader, Edi Rama, declared that the Albanian people
deserve the EU candidate status on this anniversary of independence,
rather than a third punishment from the EU for what the government
failed to achieve.

“We are not here to play the good defending lawyer of our country, but to bring a clear message from the Albanian opposition, which is that the government doesn’t deserve it, but the Albanians deserve the support of the European Commission and the EU candidate status”, Rama declared.

“The real European Albanian is still far, but I think that the Albanian citizens, left or right voters, do not deserve to get punished for the third time because of the bad governing and unfulfilled duties of the government, which do not allow an Albania of European standards in their daily life”, he underlined.

Commissioner Fule welcomed the passing of the immunity lifting law.

“Everyone knows by now what Albania must do. This is what we talked about yesterday with the President and today with the opposition leader. Commissioner Fule talked about Albania’s chances and declared that there’s a perspective for Albania’s progress in the integration road of there will be a critical mass of results for the 12 key priorities”, declared the Spokesperson for the Commissioner Fule, Peter Stano, who praised the passing of the immunity lifting law.

“The Commissioner welcomed the passing of the immunity system law, with the support of both political parties. It is also important to preserve the political dialogue and guarantee its continuity and stability”, Rama declared.

The Progress Report of the European Commission will be published on October 10th.
