“Modernization of the entire system”. This is the answer that the Albanian government wants to give to corruption.
From the “Nationa Forum against Corruption”, where the ministers unfolded a balance of the achievements done so far against corruption, the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama,d eclared that they are not there to boast to the public or try to look good with the international community, but to make everyone honestly accountable.
Rama said that the fight against corruption can be done by modernizing the government infrastructure in all sectors. He said that the national operation against the theft of energy is a battle for life or death. Rama referred to an internal poll made by the government, which suggests that he has support from 85% of the Albanian people in this operation. He warned for another national operation, and this time for the water.
“There is another and even bigger financial gap than the energy. The water. Albania is the second country in Europe for more water per capita. Our biggest problem is that in stead of accumulating wealth through this asset, we have accumulated debts. The aqueduct system is led by gangs throughout the terruitory. This is a terrible history that has nothing to do with the people. You can replace those people with others and the same thing with happen. It is related to the system. By going from one system to another through the territorial reform, we take a bigger step towards modernization, and through modernization we save the system from corruption”, Rama declared.
The Prime Minister asked the citizens to cooperate in the fight against corruption by reporting anonymously through a system that allows them to do so. Rama guarantees that a dedicate team will follow the cases.
The National Coordinator against Corruption, Bledi Cuci, declared that they will answer for the results and the actions against corruption in these 16 months of governing.
Nasip Naco, Minister of Justice, declared that the rule of law will be implemented even against government officials.
