Considering this reform as vital for a normal development of our
country, the Prime Minister clarified once again the position held by
the government towards the opposition, saying that the Alliance for
European Albania has the votes for qualified majority, and this is the
reason that this time the Albanian politics will not be the traditional
irresponsible obstacle in the path of this reform.

“We want this reform to be led by the Albanian Parliament, with a special Parliamentary Commission. Not only we want a full participation from the opposition in planning the project of the reform, but we are ready to allow the opposition to lead the Commission, based on the good practice of the Bipartisan Parliamentary Commissions, and give them all the rights that guarantee equality in this Commission, including the veto, as it has been used with the Electoral Reform. Therefore, we desire and wish that the opposition will remove this huge topic of national interest from their legitimate anti-government action, so that we will not be missing a reform that has a huge national interest for our public and community”, Rama declared.

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama,  declared that in the conditions of Albania today, this is the main reform. According to him, this enables a review of today’s situation, in the condition when parts of the population have remained outside the development paths. This reform decides new standards about treating the potentials of every part of our territory, for having a better management of these potentials for the community. Rama connects the success of this reform with what he considered a modernization process that makes Albania more ready to access the structural funds, and makes the coordination with he European Union much easier.

Bledi Cuci, Minister of the Local Administration, declared that the Albanian politics owes this reform to the Albanian citizens since 1990.

The realization of this reform will receive assistance from the United States, Swiss and Swedish governments, through the STAR project. On behalf of the three states that will fund this project, the United States Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, underlined the need for political cooperation.

“For more than 10 years, Albania and the international community have shared the same opinion that the current system of the local administration is not stable. The Albanian people has paid the price of paying outside the standards. We support the efforts of the Albanian government to realize the territorial administration reform conform the international standards for an analytic objectiveness, transparency and all inclusiveness. “We encourage the government to guarantee that the voices of all Albanians will be heard in this process, through the representatives that they have elected. The best product for the country would be an all-inclusive solution”, Arvizu declared.
