Rains damage agriculture

“The soil is full of humidity and crops like wheat are feeling the lack
of oxygen and cannot grow as they should”, says a farmer from Lushnje.

Besides the winter goods, soil humidity is destroying even spring products.

“We should have finished planting the new products, but there has been no progress. Fruit trees and beans should have been over by now. All these delays will bring many consequences”, the farmer declared.

Even in Korce farmers have been unable to plant, due to the heavy rains.
“We should have planted wheat, corn and beets here, but nothing has been done”, another farmer says.

The situation in this area is even worse due to the lack of draining canals. “The lands here have been flooded for more than 20 years, and no one has even bothered to clean one meter of canal”, another farmer complains.

The damage has started affecting the domestic market. INSTAT reported that the food inflation reached the highest level in the last two years.

As for other goods, the prices have reached historical levels, a situation that according to experts will continue during the entire season.
