The national road that connects Saranda with Vlora in the south of Albania has become almost impassable at the exit of Borsh village. The sights you see are of the newly restored highway.

It has collapsed as if it hit by a powerful earthquake, although in fact there was only a few millimeters of rain that revealed the scandalous quality of the work done by the company “Salillari”.

The road is cracked in the middle because its retaining walls have shifted. This company on January 2017 had signed a 5-year contract with the Albanian Road Authority for the maintenance and rehabilitation of national roads in the south of the country.

“Salillari” was announced the winner of the tender offering about 13.7 million euros for the service.

The contract, which Top Channel has seen in full, is part of the program that the Albanian government has with the World Bank for road maintenance and safety in the country. But, even though more than three years have passed since the tender, the situation on the ground is quite problematic.

Roads have no signals, lines and in some cases were left to degrade so that additional funds are needed to repair the damage caused. The same thing happened in the road axis Levan-Tepelena, when from the collapse of this mass of stones, the whole highway became impassable and additional funds were needed to bring it back to working condition.
