The Radika River issue has involved the President of Albania, Bujar
Nishani, who has discussed the concern with the Foreign Minister, Ditmir
Bushati, according to information received by Top Channel.
The official position held by the Albanian government is that the international agreement are the guide to be followed by all countries, the President and the Foreign Minister have discussed about the need of a new document for the National Security.
The issue has been raised by local experts of this area, who say that the National Security document of 2004 doesn’t address the new reality in our country and the region.
Sources say that Nishani and Bushati have also mentioned the issue that affects both of the intitutions, the appointing and discharging of ambassadors, in which the Foreign Ministry makes the proposition and the President decrees.
This meeting comes in a moment when there are several countries in which new appointments are expected in embassies, and there are also names that are on duty but have not fulfilled the criteria. It is still unknown about the positions of both sides for the appointments, but we know that in the past there have always been institutional stalemates on these cases, after the right centered majority blocked the propositions made by the former President.
The candidate status and the possibility to have Albania head the OSCE was also part of the dialogue between the President and the Foreign Minister.
Protest for the Radika River
The Alliance Against the Deviation of the Radika River protested against the Macedonian project, by even saying that there is an agreement with the Albanian government about this issue.
“The Alliance asks the Albanian government to make transparency and give an official answer to the requests made by the governments of Macedonia and Greece for the implementation of the projects that foresee the deviation of the Radika and Vjosa Rivers”, declared Veap Kola, representative of the Alliance.
Environmentalist Sazan Guri and the Democratic Party Parliament Member, Mesila Doda, who said that she was in this protest as a citizen, asked that these agreements that damage Albania should never be tolerated.
“The project appeared today on the World Bank website, and it has been approved by the Macedonian government, who have asked 80 million USD for the final deviation of Radika. The project doesn’t allow the functionality of the water systems in our country”, Doda declared.
“This concern is not only for Dibra, but for all citizens, because this is about millions of Europs lost in drinking water and energy for the Albanian people”, Guri declared.
Government: There are no talks
The government repeated through the Minister of Energy that there is no project or agreement about this matter.
“There no agreement. There is only a border agreement that has been accepted by both sides, based on international instruments, and the public should know about the mutual treatment of the waters between Albania and Macedonia. This means that every project that has an impact on these waters, should be defended by these agreements. Everything else is speculation. I don’t know who is trying to encourage something about which the Macedonian authorities themselves say that it doesn’t exist”, Gjiknuri declared.
