Race for new DP leadership starts

As for the reason of the loss, Olldashi said that it was due to internal and external factors.

He said that there were exaggerations by the Socialist Movement for Integration, and also concessions from the Democratic Party. He added that Socialist Movement for Integration attacked the Democratic Party with the power the latter gave them. As for the Democratic Party, Olldashi declared that arithmetic attacks principles in politics.

“We gave power to the Socialist Movement for Integration as part of our coalition. We let the do what they wanted with your power. They left the coalition and turned to attack the Democratic Party in its supporting structures, the people. Although the government made everything possible to have a regular process in these elections, there was a deviation from purchased votes. The first thing that we need to do is convince Albanians that the electoral process is not a bazaar”, Olldashi declared.

Olldashi apologized to the militants and as for the new majority, he added that it is not real, it is corrupted and incriminated. Thus, he said that it should be easy for them to bring that majority down, regardless the low numbers in Parliament.

“We are all responsible for this loss. The only ones who are not responsible for this loss are the common militants of the Democratic Party and the common members, who have not administered the power but who have worked hard for the campaign to spread the ideas of the Democratic Party program. I don’t hesitate to apologize to all Democratic Party militants”, Olldashi declared.

He explained that he entered the race as a common Democratic Party militant, reminding them of 1990, when he distributed tracts in Durres. Today he is competing because he is part of the victories and also losses of the Democratic Party.

Knowing the structures of this political force, Olldashi bases his campaign on reviving it with the personal contribution of every member, establishing mechanisms such as resignation after a defeat, starting from the leader and then to others.

Olldashi explained that his program for leading the Democratic Party will be the key for a strong political force that will come to power very soon.

Basha, campaign in Elbasan

“Let’s defeat the majority of deformed votes”

Lulzim Basha started his campaign in Elbasan. During a meeting with the party members in the Skampa Theater, Basha unfolded his views for the long road that the Democratic Party has to take in the future. He asked the trust of the membership, declaring that only together they can make Albania progress.

“This is a chance for uniting any of us in this great family. The first element of reflection is being together and not allowing divisions. Each of us should accept its own responsibilities. My candidacy for the Democratic Party did not start on personal ambition, but on the feeling of responsibility, and this is a difficult decision for me”, Basha declared.

Most of Basha’s speech was addressed against the new majority, which he considers the majroity of deformed votes.

“I’m not discussing the result, but the legitimacy and moral through which this majority came to power”, he said.

“This majority came to power with promises which they cannot keep, and which they have no intention to keep. This majority can go against the interests of these citizens. We must oppose this majority and be a majority with the citizens’ interests. The Democratic Party will get organized to protect the civil service”, Basha underlined.

During his speech Basha praised the figure of the retired leader, Sali Berisha, considering him a historic leader and by excluding the possibility that he is responsible for the loss of the June 23rd elections.

“We are all responsible for the loss, but this will not divide the Democratic Party”, he said, appealing for a decent race that will bring this party to power as soon as possible.
