Dozens of young and old intellectuals, supported by the architect
association, protectors of the cultural heritage and other NGOs will hold today a great meeting
in Tirana for opposing the demolition of the International Culture Center, known
as “The Pyramid”.
“This is one of the first meetings not organized by political parties. The citizens themselves are reacting, because someone wants to destroy in the city where we live”, declared the publicist Artan Lame.
There will be many young people who will participate, who have expressed their opinions through different social networks against the demolition of the Pyramid.
The citizens’ meeting will start at 19:30 in the square in front of the Pyramid. The organizers say that they will even sign a petition.
“50 meters from the square there is the Prime Minister’s office, who will hear the voice of the citizens, if he has ears. This is not the case when the citizens are some politician’s tool. This is the city where we live and they are changing it without asking us. It is up to the citizens if they want to react or stay at home”, Lame declared.
The decision for the demolition of the Pyramid was taken by the Democratic Party MPs. The government has promised the construction of a new Parliament, for which they have taken a loan of 100 million EUR. The cost of the new Parliament has not made public yet, since the law doesn’t mention any financial value.
