Public Television Board of Directors

After three hours of discussions behind closed doors, the opposition and
majority Parliament Members at the Parliamentary Commission for the
media failed to agree about the procedure of chosing the Public
Television Board of Directors.

The majority asked for consensus in the procedure in order to chose professional members, but it has not been accepted by the opposition.

“The majority offered three alternatives, so that we could have an easier selection within the legal frame. The opposition’s proposed was to have a narrower number of candidates in order to chose the final 10. This was not accepted, since it is illegal”, declared the vice Chairman of the Commission, Alfred Peza.

The selection of the board of directors will be made in the next meeting, based on a procedure that is provided by law, which is analyzing each of the candidates.

According to the majority Parliament Members, the opposition asked for a procedure that was considered illegal, since it was based on supporting candidates on illegal criteria, and on political preferences.

“The procedure is very strict. The candidates will undergo the one by one elimination, until there will be five candidates from the majority and five from the opposition”, Peza explained.

In the commission of media it has been discussed also on the amend of the Commission’s vice chairman, Alfred Peza, for reviewing an article for the law of Audio Visual Media, in which they asked a wide international expertise.

“Today we reviewed the proposition of the vice chairman of the commission for international assistance on the amend that is presented for the AMA. This is since the process for the AMA law was assisted by European experts of the Council of Europe and the European Union”, Peza declared.

AMA is in a stalemate for more than one year, since its members have their mandates expired.
