The Media and Education Commission keeps withholding is still
withholding the selection of the Board of Directors of the Albanian
Public Radio and Television, since the finding of a consensual formula
between parties seems impossible.
The same situation has continued even this Monday, but with harsh debates. With the absence of the Parliament Members of the majority, Chairman Genc Pollo has started the voting of the opposition’s formula, by approving it with the votes of the opposition Parliament Members.
“This is the ninth time that you continue with this dirty show, outside the rules and regulations. We know what your goal is. Vote the concrete proposition that was made here and then we will discuss about whatever you want”, declared the vice chairman Alfred Peza.
“It is not the chairman, the opposition or the majority who delays the Commission. It is the incapability to make compromises and concessions with what you have and especially with what you want to receive and that the law doesn’t give you, which is the case with the opposition in this case. This is the basis of our discussion and the real cause of delays that you have rightfully mentioned and that go up to two or three months”, declared the Chairman of the Commission, Genc Pollo.
This action has brought a strong reaction from the majority, which found another tricky move from Pollo, since the propositions of the majority have not been allowed to be voted for weeks by him.
“We are ‘sentenced’, not because of our will, but because of the citizens’ vote and the obligations we have to the majority in this commission, to continue and make the reforms based on the rules, regulations and laws when they don’t have the full consensus of both parties, which in this case is not because of the majority, which has been waiting for six months for a positive approach to consensus”, Peza declared.
After several debates and discussions, Pollo decided to vote the old proposition of the majority, which is to select the candidates of the Public and Radio Television with a formula of 20 propositions from the opposition and 20 from the majority, until they reach the final number. This proposition was approved, but it brought the media commission in the same point it was a few weeks ago.
The Chairman of this Commission, Genc Pollo, has been accused by the majority Parliament Members of withholding not only the reform of the Public and Radio Television through procedural artifices, but also the reform of the Audiovisual Media Commission.
