Public investments 35% lower in September

The progress of the public investments has deteriorated in September,
despite the high pressure that the government had to accelerate them.

Recent public data from the Ministry of Finances show that the public investments in September reached 150 million USD or 35% less than the plan.

446 million USD were planned to be spent so far, but the government has spent only 296 million USD.

The slow progress of public investments has turned into one of the biggest stalemates of the budget for this year. The IMF and the Bank of Albania asked the government to accelerate their realization, in order to not stop the economic growth, which dropped with 0.6% in the second trimester.

The government intervened in the budget through the Normative Act, which redistributed investments. The government transferred 150 million USD of investment funds from problematic projects to those with a quick progress.

The budget has planned 672 million USD for 2014. The government has spent 44% of this for the first nine months. The 56% that remain will be spent in the three remaining months, or 110 million USD each month. This is three times bigger than the average of the first nine months.
